Springs Primary School Program ( Grade1 to 5)

Welcome to the Springs Primary program.

Springs Education begins with a simple understanding: children experience the world differently at each stage of their development, and learning has the greatest meaning when it connects with where they are.

As children grow into the lower school, the curiosity of the early years is carried forward. Through story, movement, music, and creative work, learning unfolds. Ideas are encountered and explored before they are named and explained, as understanding begins to take shape through experience.

Children in our primary program are guided thriugh discovery and learning.Through a vibrant academic curriculum that is integrated into storytelling, art, music, nature science, and hands-on activities, students’ imaginations are sparked and nurtured.

During these formative years, a deep love of learning is cultivated, while a strong academic foundation is established through meaningful and emotionally rich experiences.

Curriculum Themes

The curriculum meets the Class One child through a rich world of story, where learning begins in image and imagination. Through fairy tales and nature stories, children are immersed in language that nourishes their inner world and forms the foundation for literacy.

From these experiences, reading and writing are introduced, emerging naturally from what the children hear, see, and create. Early Mathematics is developed through rhythm, movement, and pattern.

Alongside this, the arts, music, and hands-on activities engage the whole child, supporting the development of coordination, creativity, and a joyful approach to learning.

The curriculum meets the class 2 child through fables and stories from Celtic mythology, where human qualities are shown in vivid and memorable ways. Alongside these, children hear stories of real individuals who have met challenges with courage, bringing a real-world perspective to the qualities found in the tales.

Reading, writing, and mathematics continue to deepen, growing out of this shared work with story. Languages develop further, and the natural world becomes a place of closer observation and exploration. Craft, painting, modelling, movement, and music remain woven through each day, supporting learning that is active, creative, and connected.

The curriculum meets the Class Three child through ancient stories, with their clear sense of guidance, challenge, and purpose, supporting the child’s search for reassurance and meaning.

Practical work such as farming, gardening, and building brings learning into the real world, allowing students to experience how things are made, grown, and sustained.

In Mathematics, a focus on measure, money, and practical problem solving connects learning to everyday life, building confidence and understanding.

Through this grounding, children develop a sense of security and belonging
deepen their practical skills, and begin to trust in their ability to understand and engage with the world.

The curriculum meets the Class Four and Five child through themes that reflect their growing awareness of complexity, contrast, and individuality.

The study of animals, nature, and local geography grounds them in the real world, offering clarity and connection. As their emerging individuality is met, children develop greater independence in reading and writing, confidence in mathematical thinking and problem-solving, and a deepening sense of skill, creativity, and capability in languages, the arts, and Music.belonging, deepen their practical skills, and begin to trust in their ability to understand and engage with the world.

In Class 5, students’ expanding awareness bridges their imaginative experience with a more grounded understanding of history and civilization. This transition is key as children begin to think more logically and analytically. Stories from Ancient India, Persia, and Greece bring history to life, fostering compassion. Botany and geography connect students to the natural world, while geometry explores the beauty of mathematics. Language studies in French or German, along with craft and music, continue.
